Course Evaluations

One of the privileges of Club Dead membership is being a member of the Road Crew. Members who join the Road Crew rate courses for Club Dead. We ask interested members to take this job seriously. You can find disc golf Bios of Road Crew members on the Road Crew pages.

We expect or evaluators to be both fair and critical of a course, keeping in mind that an accurate finding is in everyone's interest. Here is what we like our evaluators to consider when rating a course

bullet

Is the course fair to all?

bullet

What type of course is it, technical, power, recreational, how does it compare to other courses of it's type?

bullet

Was it well rounded, making good use of the  available terrain?

bullet

Was it Fun to play regardless of scores?

bullet

Would you highly  recommend it to someone else?

Club Dead course evaluations are based on several criteria, that we feel are important for your disc golf enjoyment. We hope you find them useful in selecting courses to play.

Overall:

Every course gets an Overall rating based on a scale of 1-20. The overall number is a pretty good indication the course is worth playing. The overall score will tell truly what a rater thought of the course looking at the course as a whole. A 20  score here equates with the raters dream course.

We also have several categories for evaluating courses which rates a courses for each category on a 1-5. 1=poor, 2=fair, 3=good, 4=very good, 5=excellent. These ratings tell you in a little more detail good or bad things about the course. Below is a list of these categories and the criteria we use for rating courses.

Fun Factor:

This score reflects whether or not a course is fun to play. Is the course fun despite bad scores.  1 means the evaluator hated it, it's boring and repetitive. A  5 means we had fun despite shooting the worst score of our life.

Difficulty:

By difficulty we mean how hard is it to shoot par. A  score of 1 here means it's a pretty simple pitch and putt. A 5, means you better bring your "A" game and then you still might not shoot par.

Course Design:

Was there thought to avoiding playgrounds, trails and bike paths etc. Does the course flow well, is it obvious where to go after each hole and on the tee. Am I walking back up a fairway to get to a tee pad. Is the course well rounded, making players use a variety of shots both long and short.

Use of Terrain:

Does the course make full use of the available terrain. Did they miss obvious great holes. How well does the course take advantage of the natural hazards, and elevation changes.

Baskets:

Are they all the same? What condition are they in? Are they bent, are chains missing,  at the correct height? Catching ability?

Tee Pads:

Are they flat and level? Can you run up without tripping over roots or holes. On cement are they slippery or not, are they level, big enough for a run-up etc.

Food & Drink:

When you travel long distances to a course you want to know is there someplace close to get decent food. This category is for you.  A 1 here means your starving , you better bring it with you. A 5 means your styling there are plenty of choices of quality not just fast food.
